Happy 16th Birthday Cate!

I have been blessed to have this beautiful daughter in my life.  She has brought me so much joy and happiness.  The young woman she has grown into has even surpassed my expectations.  I love you Catie-girl!

Educational Reading

I recently participated in a book study of Penny Kittle's book called "Book Love."  As a reading teacher, I am always looking for new ways to engage and connect with students.  Often I find, students and adults just need to reconnect to reading and find the book that rebuilds the confidence they had as young readers.  In Kittle's book, she really dives into understanding readers and making connections with teens.  There is a chapter dedicated to stamina and fluency and I recommend reading that chapter just to be rejuvenated on how to make those successes.  Some topics were very validating for me as others were a new way to view an old trick.

I really like Kittle's down to earth manner.  I had the opportunity to hear her speak and I wasn't disappointed.  I look forward to adding more educational texts to this site for all of my nerdy teacher friends who still love to learn about being a reading teacher.  You know who you are....

Family

I met my husband in 1991.  We did not have a love at first sight moment but after about 9 months, decided there was more going on between us than just friendship.  We were married in 1996 and since have two daughters.  This family is the best decision I ever made and I love all the crazy moments we are together.

I want to share some of our times together with you so we can stay in touch and as my children grow, they can go back and read my perspective on their lives and decisions.

My hobby....reading.

I have a love of reading.  As a teen, I wasn't a reader but once I entered college, I became an avid reader.  Through the years, I have entered genres I never thought I would like to read.   I want to share some of the books I have read and will continue to read here in this blog.

Please write back about any books you might recommend as I am always looking for new stories to read
